There are three different types of basic insole product on the market: comfort insoles, insoles for support (like insoles for flat feet) and custom orthotics.
- Comfort insoles are simple generic shoe inserts which provide a cushioning effect in the shoe; these are typically made from gel or soft foam.
- Custom orthotics are individually created via prescription to address specific foot problems. They fix the foot in one position only, which limits foot function.
- Support insoles are made of a harder type of foam and they provide arch support for feet as well as stability and mitigate issues such as splayed feet, dropped arches, and plantar fasciitis.
